WINDSOR, Colo. – The Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC announced today that the team has picked up the option on defender Rob Cornwall’s contract to keep him for a second season.
Cornwall is the team’s captain and an irreplaceable part of Northern Colorado’s back line. The coaching staff considers him an important piece of the “backbone” of the team.
“Rob is our leader,” Head Coach Eamon Zayed said. “He’s a massive presence, not just on the field, but off the field as well. In getting that spine of the team right, he’s a really, really vital part of the team. We’re delighted to have him back for 2023.”
Cornwall played in 26 of the team’s League One matches in 2022, starting 25 of those. He also played in all three U.S. Open Cup matches, scoring the historic goal that gave the Hailstorm the win over MLS side Real Salt Lake.
The captain scored one goal in league play. It came against Richmond on the road on June 18. He made 82 clearances, eight blocks, 16 interceptions and 1,066 successful passes.
